90's Style in Miami

The great weather we've had this past week has left me feeling nostalgic about my childhood holidays.  Growing up I was fortunate enough to visit Florida most years with my family and as a result I can only connote it with 90s fashion. Generally Florida is recognized as a tourist trap of theme parks and gift shops rather than a cultural haven but I have only fond memories of this place and can't get enough of the 90s tourist chic.
Looking around the high-street it seems that girly grunge and street inspired trends are back in fashion so grab your 'mom-jeans' and bum bags because the 90s are back and they are better than ever.

Patterned sundress-Urban Outfitters-£40.00

TIP: The 90s trend is amazing but it's not entirely wearable if you're used to playing it safe.  The good thing is you don't always have to take the trends literally, sometimes when it's done subtly it makes for an overall more chic look.  For example, the patterned sundress from Urban Outfitters is stylish and wearable but channels the 90s trend with it's muted colours and crazy pattern.  Complete the look with an oversized denim jacket and converse.

I've found that Topshop, Urban Outfitters and American Apparel offer the best of this trend.  Alternatively, you can find some great authentic items of clothing in vintage shops and charity shops.

When researching this trend, the first place I went to look was my parents photo albums.  They spent their honeymoon in Miami in 1992 so I knew I'd find some great outfits.

DJ Jazzy Jeff and The Fresh Prince-Summertime
I couldn't publish this blogpost without referencing The Fresh Prince and Jazzy Jeff, for me they are the epitome of 90s style- crazy patterns, bright colours and oversized jackets.  I also love the character Ashley Banks' style in The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, her pairing of crop tops and high-waisted bottoms would look perfect in South Beach.
